Death was such a weird thing. Kind of scary, but also riddled with morbid fascination for the uncertain, the unknown even. You've seen it turning living beings into decaying piles of flesh, soon to be eroded by tiny white maggots or devoured by scavenging animals. Or consumed by fire if the deceased being was a member of the tribe.

You've seen people burning before. Living beings, turned into charred corpses by the voracious flames ascending from the piled up stake below them. They all screamed. The same way. A bursting expression of pure agony unlike anything you've ever heard elsewhere. Raneya screamed that way while being burnt for drowning her newborn child. The white man from across the sea screamed that way while being burnt for preaching the Volcano God wasn't real. Even the fearless Munarog screamed that way while being burnt for raping the elder's granddaughter.

Could this really be the way a soul gets freed from its worldly burden? Did it not care what happens to its former body? Of course you knew what they taught you: The soul gets freed when the body turns to ashes. But what about the soul of the deer you ate last night? Will it be doomed forever to wander around the island, desperately waiting for its body to turn into ashes? Do deers even have souls? Are there souls at all? How can the Shaman really know such things from sitting in their cottage, all day long smoking that stuff that makes you feel dizzy when coming even near them.

You knew being sacrificed to the Volcano God was supposed to be a great honor. You knew it should ascend your soul straight into paradise. But did you also believe in it? Maybe you wouldn't meet all your dead relatives on the other side. Maybe you would never see aunt Balki's smile again. Maybe there was not only joy and happiness but also pain and suffering in the afterlife. What if there was no afterlife at all? Just pure, endless blackness? An infinite amount of nothingness?

You were not ready to find out yet. Awakening from your thoughts you helped a few other tribe members pushing Trigger into the volcano. Maybe you would be brave enough to step up and sacrifice yourself some other day. But today was not that day.

You have come to this island disguised as a camera crew, under the pretense of gathering footage for a documentary on the tribe that lives here.

In truth, you are Bryan Welsh, trainee Ghostbuster.

The island's high level of paranormal activity is well known, and the Ghostbusters have been using this as a training ground for their new recruits for years now.

The villagers are very welcoming, they will even let you vote during each day! You aren't quite sure what they are all voting for, but hey if it keeps them happy...

ultron87 stepped out into the cool air. It was dawn, and the rest of the villagers hadn't stirred just yet, so he decided to take a walk through the forest. The recent deaths had unsettled him and it would be good to have some time to himself.

He made his way through the forest until he came to the edge of a large cliff overlooking the sea. It was always quiet up here, away from the hustle and bustle of modern village-life, and he often came here to be alone with his thoughts. He took a seat at the very edge of the cliff, his legs dangling far above the below crashing against the rocks below.

An indeterminate amount of time passed and, growing uncomfortable, ultron began to fidget. Suddenly, he felt the soil shifting beneath him. In a blind panic he spun round to grab at firmer ground, but everything he grabbed seemed to move under his grip, and he soon realized it was too late. The weight of his legs dragged him over the edge of the cliff face and he plummeted to the rocks below.

Kawl was found in his hut, slumped in the middle of the room. Nothing was out of place, and no visible harm had come to him. He was not old or sick or otherwise frail, he had simply died for no discernible reason, and most disturbingly of all his spirit could not be detected. The villagers had never seen anything like it, but it seemed this dark mystery would not be easily solved.
