Anecdote, but I was actually going to suggest maybe killing Splinter tonight. Guess that's not happening lol The Ultimate Roleblock.
yo Burb, does this affect Blarg's passive ability or is it only blocking active ones?
or is this classified and can you not answer that? :c

wait, if what El Topo says is true, that captured Pokemon lose their powers; if I get captured Tonight be on the lookout for my CODEWORD drop in-thread telling y'all who my Trainer is hopefully I won't get lynched Tomorrow, and one of you's can NK the Trainer on N3 to free me

If I had a power in the game, that would make people lose their powers, it would affect passive and active roles.

Any guesses on who the Trainer is?
I thought it was Royal and that's why he just ignored Topo because they were in a chat together.

no idea; Topo's Trainer could've been breadcrumbed/hinted at somewhere, but it'd take quite a bit of post-trawling to fish that out

I think Roy also brought up Dusk as a roleblock target as well due to his possible cop connection. We'll have to lay out the options and see which one looks the bestest.
although Topo did mention that he and the person he is in a chat with both don't like you, Blarg. So look for people who feel the same, I guess?

But... what if a Trainer catches an Investigative Role Pokemon? If what El Topo is saying is true, then if the Trainer was Town-aligned, by capturing that Pokemon they'd effectively be crippling their faction. The only way this set-up (according to El Topo's claims) could make sense for Town, is if Pokemon Trainers are Neutral and thus don't have to care about the consequences of their capturing... or if the Trainer is the Investigative Role themselves. Flavour-wise: a Pokemon Trainer has a Pokedex, uses it to identify who's that Pokemon; they're probably informed of the Pokemon's name, Element-type and ability. Hence, a Pokemon Trainer would be a Name-Cop, not an Alignment-Cop, most likely? And as such, it's highly probable according to this theory of mine, that it's a Pokemon who's the Alignment-Cop. There was mention of a second Win condition for Trainers and captured Pokemon; could it have something to do with an Investigative, Pokedex-armed Trainer that has to analyze and catch a certain set of Pokemon and survive to the end with that particular team? Also, perhaps, one of those REVOKEDs from Barrylocke/Lady Gaga's Role PM, could actually be a RELEASE command; if the Pokemon/Power Role could convince the Trainer that they'd be more useful free in the wild and able to use their Power Role, then the Trainer could release them from their Pokeball. With all this speculation, nin's comments make me even more uneasy. That "robot, turn things around" comment of his seemed too on-the-nose and out-of-nowhere, and especially that last comment about me during D2-end too; calling me out like that, specifically saying that he was expecting me to do something? hmm Therefore, here's my theory about nin:- I think he's a Pokemon Trainer and a Power Role. I think he investigated me last Night. - Judging from his comments to me, I think he's a Name-Cop, not an Alignment-Cop; I think he Pokedex'd me, and indeed found out that I was KLANG, Steel-type Gear Pokemon. Hence, his "robot, turn things around" comment. I don't think he knows I'm scum, but I can't say for sure, of course. - NOTE: I do admit that the "robot" part of that comment could be a reference to my automation quote and Makai dropping in to joke about Blargobot. - However, what I think is, is that after nin Name-Cop investigated me, found out I was Steel-type KLANG, he took in the sight of the metal gun in my avatar and assumed that I had been breadcrumbing myself as an interventionist/killing Role. Which led him to try and goad me into doing something before D2-end. When I made my "Override me" comment before the end, this only solidified his suspicion as to my Role's power, and thus this is what led him to say "fuck you" to me at the end for not doing anything about Flush... ugh, I dunno, this is all guesstimating to me. TL;DR: I think we should ROLEBLOCK or NK nin Tonight, because I think he's a Trainer who knows I'm KLANG but not my alignment. I think he might attempt to capture me Tonight. In any case, I think he's a danger to me, I just don't know how brb, sleep powder I'll go back over D2 again tomorrow, see if I see anything

If a scum was captured to a hypothetical team that disables their power roles, they would be informed with a PM what would happen to their factional kill power.

Post by Blargonaut on Sept 21, 2016 12:25:32 GMT -8
yeah... I think two of those REVOKEDs in Lady Gaga's Role PM, are:
POKEDEX INVESTIGATE (Name-Cop) - find out the name of, and what type, a Pokemon is; perhaps relevant to a Trainer's Win condition, in that they have to have some Pokemon of a certain type in their squad then survive with them until the end or until some certain point, perhaps the lynching of all the other Trainers like a last-man-standing kind of deal, to win
-->> this leads to the conclusion that Barrylocke/Lady Gaga was a Neutral, of something like a Survivor/Lyncher Mason group or something? -->> I also believe that this theoretical POKEDEX INVESTIGATE power, can be used simultaneously with the Trainer's CAPTURE power each Night; meaning that, each Night, they can capture one Pokemon while investigating another, possibly
RELEASE POKEMON - release a captured Pokemon into the wild, allowing them to use their Power Role again, if they had one before; would make sense for a Town-aligned Trainer, to allow Town-aligned Pokemon Power Roles to use their powers again

OK, I am going to work with the assumption they will lose the ability to do the kill unless there are no scum members left to do the kill, that makes the most sense to me.
We need to work out a safe way for the captured member to answer simple yes/no questions. Something like : end your next post with a dot if it is yes, without a dot if it is no.

I told you guys I'd go after Gorlak today.
Maybe a captured Pokemon's secondary win conditions are for the trainer to be the last one standing (the very best) or have the biggest team at the end of the game?
An ordinary Pokemon's win condition is when "all forces that disrupt the island" are gone. A trainer who catches Pokemon, could, theoretically, be a disruptive force.
Therefore, trainers could be neutral and win as the last human with their team of Pokemon.

Will also have to consider the timing of Topo's reveal. Was it to save his trainer (CM)?

Therefore, trainers could be neutral and win as the last human with their team of Pokemon. Interestingly, we win if we have 50 % of the votes, no special "also kill the neutrals" clause. I really didn't know what to think about having a second win condition. Being able to win "more" sounds like the dumbest thing to me. I am pretty sure topo is lying about that.

Yeah, I agree with Blarg and Roy on this one. Seeing as being caught by a trainer gives you an additional alignment instead of overriding your previous one that means whatever this 'mystery' win condition is probably does not involved killing people or becoming the majority since you would need to play opposite of your original alignment to obtain that. Becoming 'the very best like no one ever was' by catching either a certain number of Pokemon or catching X of a certain type of Pokemon and then surviving until end game seems likely and wouldn't require those who are caught to play against their OG team. Maybe catch 1 of each Pokemon Type in the game?
A RELEASE command also makes a ton of sense balance-wise. Town would be fucked if ( assuming we have 2 Trainers out there ) the Cop and Doctor both got caught on Night 1 and were then rendered useless for the rest of the game. It would also add a strategic element for the Trainer; do they release this person because they claim Cop if it makes their win condition harder to achieve? Do they release this person because it doesn't work towards the Trainers win condition despite their contributions to the Mason chat? etc. etc. etc.
Perhaps the POKEDEX search isn't something the Trainer does just as a one-off command each Night as well as catching a Pokemon. Going by game-logic, a Pokedex entry isn't added until a Pokemon is caught so it would make sense that when a Pokemon is caught in this game would be when the POKEDEX power activates. I want to say Topo also made an off-hand remark that, while he doesn't know the Trainer's alignment, that caught Pokemon are revealed in the chat. This could just mean your Name is shown and I'm willing to bet it is, because being caught and having your Name + Power revealed would be BS for us. A Roleblocker and Vengeful are not inherently Town PRs and if those got out we would be dead on the spot.
Thoughts 1. Trainers become pseudo-Pokemon Cops. If they tried to catch Roy or Fire they would not be successful because they are Human and if either Roy/Fire fakeclaimed in the future as a Pokemon all it would take is the trainer to say something and then their cover is blown. "If you're a Pokemon how come I couldn't catch you on X Night?" bad news all around. 2. We probably do lose our Faction Kill power if we get caught, as Roy suggested. This lines up with Blarg, LP, and I gaining access back to this chat if Roy and Fire die because Roy/Fire can not be caught and, therefore, wouldn't lose their Kill. But if they did die and we were all caught then we would effectively not have a NK power. Balance. 3. Trainers are essentially semi-Jailers. They don't stop Night Actions taken against you, but they do stop you from doing anything. This is bad news for us, but I do like the mechanic itself. o: 4. We don't know if caught Pokemon get released upon a Trainer's death but we could probably assume they do or else they would be stuck in limbo forever. b-a-l-a-n-c-e 5. Blarg's 'Trainers are name cops and Pokemon are alignment cops' seems likely.

Will also have to consider the timing of Topo's reveal. Was it to save his trainer (CM)? That's actually why I thought it might have been Royal. His reveal does seem oddly timed. :x CM being a Trainer makes sense. I still think he is Neutral so a Neutral-Trainer would fit that. I told you guys I'd go after Gorlak today. Maybe a captured Pokemon's secondary win conditions are for the trainer to be the last one standing (the very best) or have the biggest team at the end of the game? Although...
considering that you get caught by a Trainer and gain an additional alignment as opposed to it replacing your original one, 'winning more' makes a little bit of sense. If this was a traditional 'alt win condition' then when that condition is met then the players involved get to leave and win the game. But seeing as nearly anybody can be caught, having 2+ people suddenly leave the game because they won would be hugely unfair to both sides. A massive chunk of Town could get taken out in one Night, Scum could get their team cut in half, etc.
The whole Trainer catching stuff is sort of like a mini-game within the game.
If they meet their specific win condition: awesome! good job! Having them leave for this would be like an Arsonist killing a bunch of people. But hey, they get brownie points out of it!
If they don't meet their win condition: oh well, you tried. But hey, you still have your OG alignment to fight for!

I have talked with Burb enough about balance to know he takes it very seriously. I even specifically talked with him about the subject of semi cops related to HP and love boat. I trust he balanced it accordingly.
This makes me think the trainers can't be pro town. Think about it. They have :
-a semi cop ability. -a super roleblock ability -a scum chat block ability -a Mason chat creation ability
That's a super powerful role. And there are at least two of them, with one having to be killed twice. That alone would balance wise be enough to counter our powers, but we know for a fact town has more. No way trainers are fully town aligned, town would simply be far too strong.

I still want to get rid of people that aren't very suspicious. How more potential lynch candidates, how better. The trainers can be annoying, but unless we have a sure lead on one it will be mostly guess work. I assume the trainers will leave the game eventually, because them having an army of Pokemon that will never vote then out forcing us to nk them sounds unfair.

If we can just keep the general narrative up of 'trainers could totally be scum' then the uncertainty might be enough to get 1 of them lynched. Although you make a really good point, Trainers are inherently anti-Town as well since they just stop PRs dead in their tracks. Something that could be brought up in the coming Days to keep the ~~~fear~~~ going.
I say we go bold and take out the least suspicious person in the game: Mr. Top-Town himself, Ty4on.
