This reminds me of the one time I accidently told my whole life story to nin. Harry Potter was going slow and I felt a connection to this mod. Everything was new to me. All on my own, everyone was against me. The lone neutral, fighting an unwinnable fight.
And there he was... always so kind, constantly motivating me, always listening to my doubts and fears. I felt he was special.
I decided to bomb him with every detail about my life, where I was born, where I live and of course I asked him about a meet-up! After all we live in the same country.
How wrong could I be. I rushed it. Can you imagine the awkwardness afterwards? "uhhm... okay?", "yeah.. eh.. you're doing fine there, I'll need to go... somewhere to do...something. bye"
I've never heard from him again :(

Launch are you there? We're ordinaries. Vanilla townies. Cool. Never been before.
First of all I think it's safe to say, we are not in a bastard game and can fully trust each other. 5/10 basically tells us to believe every word Burb writes and I will not once doubt anything from the mod in this game. I've no reason to lie in here, the game thread is a whole different story.
I expect this game to be rather short as we are only 15. It's either 3 or 4 scum boats. I tend to 4 with 1 neutral boat, we'll see.
We have plenty of options. Volcano Island is a good example of how many beautiful ideas ordinaries can come up with.
- shall we stay in the background and draw nk attention to us?
Given your post style, that'll be hard, besides I could see myself posting much as well.
- do we want to softclaim some bullshit?
- outpost every other boat and dominate discussion?
- act together and shoot at different people at the same time or mold a narrative and get splintbot lynched day 1?
- stir discussion, create confusion, be truthful?
Maybe it's for the best to not claim anything and be as reserved about our role as possible. I don't mind dying early, preferably at night. Any plan in case we are the prime target Day 1?
Maybe it's worth to ask, if you even want to strategize the most beautiful ideas ever, because that's what I'd like to do. Please tell me what you're up to :)

First, I’d like to say that I agree with your assessment - I don’t think either of us are non-ordinary. That said, I think there’s at least one pair of mis-matched players. I’m not sure, but I think that would be a great little gimmick to throw into a game like this. Something to keep in mind going forward - there may be 3 boats of full mafia and 1 boat that’s half mafia. By the way, 3-4 sounds about right to me.
Ok, I’m going to respond to your points kind of loosely. Generally, I don’t strategize too heavily pre-game. I like to get a feel for how people are acting first, so I don’t want to get carried away right off the bat.
However, depending on how we see people acting, I would be inclined to act in some of the ways you mentioned. As you mentioned, staying in the background is what would probably get us killed - which is why I usually don’t. If I have a role, I try to keep enough suspicion on myself to have the mafia keep me alive as a lynch target, but not enough so that people want to lynch me. Given how my last gambit played out, though, I’m more willing to play a safer route this time around. Making ourselves targets is something I’m open to.
The only thing I’m not up for is flooding the thread with posts or going in different directions. I don’t really have the time to flood threads anymore; there are periods of time where I’ll be MIA due to other responsibilities. As for going in different directions, that’s pretty much a scum tell in this kind of game, where people know we’re on the same side and know we can communicate outside of the thread. There has to be, more or less, some kind of coordination in our thinking process. I’m interested to see how much speculation players will do in the thread as opposed to in their pair chat.
I feel like, for right now, I’m going to play as I usually do. I will play more reserved as I do in the early hours of the game, take potshots, post some general thoughts. I’ll also feign being ignorant of what the pair mechanics entail. Meanwhile, start off the game as you usually would and make it as indiscernible from your regular playstyle as possible. At the very least, even though you’ve never played an ordinary, people will be thrown off because I usually play this way as an ordinary. I doubt we’ll get targeted day 1, but if we do, we’ll react to it accordingly. I don’t know why we would be, but I may react to some things without posting here beforehand to push that idea of not understanding things too well.

I agree that one mixed boat would be a nice twist, but as far as classifications go this game should be completely non-bastard. As always I'll loudly criticise Burb and every Overseer, if that's not the case. Nothing we could do now anyway.
One important aspect: "going in different directions" - I don't see this as a scumtell per se. People will notice and start to question, it's a good way to draw attention to ourselves and get a lot of different reactions. Everybody knows we work together and want to achieve sth. in particular with our way of cooperation. Let them speculate why would they do this, why don't they agree? Is it an act? Can the mafia be so obvious? If different people would push for us, there is a good chance scum could come after us, as we are an easy lynch option.
I'm not saying let's do this Day1, we'll get enough shenanigans at the start, but let's keep it in mind as an option. Concerning the game start I generally dislike Day 1 and don't want to invest too much time for this. I won't actively create confusion and mainly aim to survive the first phase.
In general I have a good feeling about this and think we'll get along well! Let's do this :)

Blawl are just the usual weirdos.
The ones I'm concerned about are Splinter and cabot, they'll have much influence on the game, I fear. Don't know why, but they give off a scum vibe to me, I don't like it.
