Pull a Rule 31 and change it, then. It's your perogative. The whole idea behind this game was to see how the core Avalon rules translate to this format. Besides, I'm not a fan of midgame rule changes, especially one involving a fundamental mechanic.

That probably won't ruffle that many feathers. Everyone wins!

That would surely ruffle feathers, and changing the rules halfway through would do so even more.
The one rule change I'd be willing to make is this: the assassin can submit their command at any time.
But if we made that an actual rule then it would be obvious why.

When the blood clot that is supposed to protect your now vacant hole after a tooth removal is absent for whatever reason and your nerve is exposed to outside air. I don't actually know if that is a concern when they get surgically removed though since the process is different. I'm told it's not an enjoyable experience either way.

oh that sounds painful
I thought they used stitches
I heard I had a nerve dangerously close to one tooth though so hopefully my numbness isn't forever. Although it might do me some good on the side where I only had one tooth

Although it might do me some good on the side where I only had one tooth ow They can't stitch the hole completely closed on a regular extraction. The gum has to actually repair itself for the most part. They usually have a dissolvable stitch in there to just keep the general shape that the gum would have been in with a tooth actually in there but from there it's just natural healing for the most part.

Ice packs help. Struggles pt 2: opening my mouth wide enough to put a fork in.
Exo chose a good team, btw. Even if Rynam screwed up Merlin if Exo plays this well enough they might stand smaaall chance. But...I still hope Evil wins normally. >.>

Hot spoilers: this one passes.
Evil will have to get two people on the next team to win via quests, and I don't see that happening. Pretty sure Rynam's days are numbered, though.

I hate a merlin snipe win so much, it feels terrible for town, and I would imagine that with a forum game that takes longer that feeling will only be stronger.

Has any scum (or the assassin specifically) jokingly sent you a PM saying that they know Rynam is Merlin? I only ask because I sometimes always get amazed how obvious something is to spectators and then come to find out later that none of the players noticed it.

I had no idea before you mentioned it (although I had kind of forgotten the role exists, I guess)

One of them did while voting on Rynam's proposal. Not the assassin, though.

I had no idea before you mentioned it (although I had kind of forgotten the role exists, I guess) It's the kind of thing you only pick up if you know exactly who all the scum are. A lack of bad reads really stands out, as does the lack of any justification for the good ones. And unfortunately for Merlin, the scum know exactly who all the scum are.

I can see why you and Drop have been assuming that a Merlin snipe is coming.

I really don't want to make it seem like I'm shitting on Rynam or anything. Merlin is a super tough role for a first-timer. I considered the idea of limiting the Merlin pool to people who have played before, but I didn't want to stack the deck in a game this small. Instead we just made sure to stress the importance of Merlin's secret identity at the start of the game.

Why should the entire town suffer for one player's less-than-optimal play?

Why should the entire town suffer for one player's less-than-optimal play? Rules of the game, much like ONUW, this is usually played in much smaller time investments so the game can be more swingy because you'd be getting a lot of games in over time. Translating this to forum play was an experiment that I think needed to be done and I don't think it's failing at all but we are just seeing that maybe some things can't transfer 100% to maximize fun.

Yup. Ultimately for a first time around this has been better for gathering information than anything. We didn't have any frame of reference for forum Avalon or Resistance going in, unlike Crab and others with forum mafia. There were doubts about how Merlin would work in a forum context and clearly the answer is that without "handicaps", not too well, but I haven't given up on making it a good experience if people are still willing to go through with it.
