GAFia needs sophsoph's guide on how to play townie :3 I started rewriting this right now, actually. It's coming off as more of tips guide then a formal one, but it should be useful to some players I hope. |

When Tim and I were lovers in Zelda I found it hard to utilize. The main benefit was being able to talk at night but that's only so much use when you're pretty sure the two of you are going to die early. Unless one of you is up for a lynch it seems like a hard to utilize role. |

I think me and Ty4on made really good use of the lovers chat in Love Boat. We even managed to identify (unintentionally) scum.
Gotta use it as a springboard for every single thought that comes to mind, especially if you know for certain the other person is aligned with you. |

The main utility of lovers is two confirmed town if needed. It's going to depend on the player, but there's only so much benefit from a private chat with both people who are otherwise vanilla town and who can just post in the main thread. |

The worst part is now town has no idea if this is a scum player trying to appeal to emotion, or a town player who has given up. They have no choice but to lynch Crab today now.

I think you're underestimating the importance of knowing you can 100% trust someone from the start of the game.

What's hard though is so early in the game you can't derive any clear thoughts from others reads on you two unless a scum member tips their hand that they're overly convinced you and this other person are town, but even that isn't full proof. Maybe I'm just not at that level of playing yet though. My reads are garbo |

Lovers are generallly considered a negative utility role to town because they are a two for one kill for scum. Also, if they collude too much, players in-game can pick up on their synergy and target them for it.
Masons are the pair that are good for town. |

Scum chat is basically one of them arguing that it would be insane to have a Poison Doctor
Now, I think the game is pretty balanced as-is. Problem is that the game will probably run longer than I originally thought, since I was mostly concerned with balance and less on speed. Probably should have thrown in a couple killing roles here and there. Ah well. I'm going to shorten the phases starting D4.
