Well, it seems obvious that when we come up against one another, we should always Ally, right?

Only one of us needs to be in the final 3. ally/betray would give one of us a better boost.

Need a way to communicate what we're going to do if we're against each other though, don't want a betray betray

We should have some kind of code for if the person is going to betray to raise their score. Maybe mention broccoli or something.

So I'm up against Kalor, and... oof, Sorian.

Not worried about Kalor. I don't have any reason to distrust him, he has no reason to distrust me, so I think in this early stage it will make the most sense for him to Ally. A lot of people on Gaf have this rosy sunny picture of me, which I think will be to my advantage.

On the other hand, Sorian.
I think Sorian's pretty up on game theory, so he would probably understand that for the most part, it's advantageous to Ally in most cases.
On the other hand, Sorian and I have an.. adversarial relationship a lot of the time, so he might assume that I am going to betray, and therefore betray me to defend himself.

/sigh. So I can clearly not choose the wine in front of <i>me.</i>

I'm leaning towards Allying. If the worst should happen and I get betrayed, I can be all wounded and play for sympathy, and make either Sorian or Kalor look like a jerk.

Ally/Ally for sure during this first phase. There's no reason not to.

I think we'll have to play a bit reactionary for the majority of the game, depending on the pairings and the situation.

Take into account, this is a little different from mafia. While in mafia, all town is allied, here they're all against each other while scum works together. It's a little trickier for the town to be so trusting. As such, it's a difficult situation when we have scenarios like right now - I don't know how Terrabyte is going to vote, but it would not be unreasonable to expect him to vote Betray if you, Crimson, don't come off as a somewhat trustworthy individual without being too subservient.

For right now, we have to play the day however it goes.

The fortunate part is that Retro seems like he's in a good position for right now. I think those two are trustworthy and I don't think you should tarnish that just yet.

In the game PD scenario, ally/ally is optimal, in this one, town knows that there's people who they need to prevent from getting points. If you know you're town and you're against two people, odds are that one might be scum, so betraying might not be such a bad idea. otoh, in a pair, you're against 1 person, and you don't know your partners alignment, so ally might be more optimal?

Oh, I see. In which case, I think we need something more elaborate.

I think we should address each other at the beginning of a specific sentence and in a specific way. When we talk to each other, we should keep it to third-person, but when we want to send each other a message, we should start the sentence with the name of the player we want to address followed by a comma. For example, if I wanted to tell Crimson I'm going for Betray/Betray, I would begin my fourth sentence with "Crimson, blah blah blah". We would reserve this for the last few hours of the day and also use an additional word (this can be a stock word like "Here" or "You") at the beginning to get each other's attention.

So, it'd be like:
-Ally/Ally: Do nothing, default state.
-Ally/Betray: Refer to each other in the second sentence.
-Betray/Ally: Refer to each other in the third sentence.
-Betray/Betray: Refer to each other in the fourth sentence.

It seems elaborate, but I think people will be looking for codes. It has to be at least a little tricky.

Big fan of Sorian's plan, everyone getting to 7 gets us one vote away from a win, and gives town no voting data. Not sure why he thinks that would be a pro town tactic.

For right now, I think he'll Ally. I don't think he can afford to Betray this early.

Yeah, it wouldn't be the end of the world if he betrayed. You can play it up against them later since you'll be the victim.
