Was thinking of a set up of say only 10 people, 2 mafia. Could work from there. The reason why I found it interesting is the idea of a small scum team working near alone/alone. Could be downsized to one person only too
These could really cool minigames for the mid-seasons.

You could definitely incorporate more experimental ideas in this type of setup too maybe?

would you make an 8 person alliance, swamped? You underestimate me. I'd even make a 10 person alliance. "Let's all vote for the moderator!"

I started planning out a small game like this around the time season 2 ended for about 9 or 10 people. The problem that I ran into was accounting for the smaller size in terms of role distribution though I have some ideas for it. I might try to look at it again over the weekend as this has renewed my interest in the idea.

Wanna expand my idea, you could start with some previous information given out by the mod or to all players
Like some player may start off having "claimed" their role

This player count is considered "micro"? 10 players or less is about how many I typically play with in live werewolf games. I'd say that a 2 wolves or so is about the regular distribution for that size. You can do a fairly normal game with 2 wolves, a Seer, and a bunch of villagers.
I'll say this - as far as experimenting goes, it's probably better to run smaller player counts...just so you don't get 20-something people stuck in a commitment to a possibly broken game.
I'd try slight modifications like changing the way people vote, or turning role reveals off. Little stuff like that can have surprising impacts on games, especially when the community is so conditioned to play a certain way.

Out of curiosity, when you do live werewolf, do you play with a known role list and only alignment reveals on death? That's what I've typically done at work, I enjoy it (at least in small crowds), but not sure how it would work with larger play like we typically have. Actually, if nobody does that I may try to put together a game like that sometime, unless we decide to save that for live mafia.

I think I've almost exclusively played live games with newbies, so I definitely explain what all the roles in the game are.
There's probably merit to the idea of running an open setup online, but our online games have typically afforded a lot of advantages (24/7 scumchat, long day phases, not having to respond to things on the fly) that probably need some kind of handicap.
